In this post, we want to share with you interior design news, practical design tips and invite you to an interior design tasting right here in your own backyard. After all, summer is a time for relaxation and collecting impressions that we preserve in photos for the winter.

Design news: characterful textured walls

Often in various interior design advice articles, you will see the recommendation that you can easily and inexpensively update the colour of a room's walls in order to prolong the life of the existing interior. A new trend in interior design, it's like an extra layer of putty to this interior salvage technique. Textured walls.
Texture can be given to walls by special painting techniques, stone, brick, plaster, wood or even various decorative panels. Just like repainting a wall, this new trend can also be your weekend project, as many of the techniques are easy to try out yourself, and this style of decoration fits in perfectly with many of the current interior styles, such as: warm natural minimalism, maximalism, art deco, japandi and others.

Design practice: summer bedding

In summer, many people get sick of the heat, which is why it's important that your bedroom interior is not only beautiful but also functional.

  3. Daugelis vasarą apskritai atsisako papildomų patalynės sluoksnių ir renkasi gražią ploną dygsniuotą paklodę (puikus pavyzdys plona vasarinė antklodė Classic).
  4. Orkaitės rėžimą miegamajame gali padėti išjungti ir tinkamai parinktas čiužinys, kuris yra pralaidus orui.
  5. Jei visgi jūsų čiužinys nėra pritaikytas vasaros iššūkiams rekomenduojame drėgmę sulaikančius termoreguliacinius užvalkalus ar paklodes.
  6. It is also very important not to forget about bedroom hygiene - it is recommended to wash your bed linen at least twice as often in summer, and fresh bed linen will also help you get a better night's rest.

Guests: an apartment block for freemen in interwar Lithuania

Summer is the perfect time to not only taste the cultures of coveted visiting countries, but also to discover the fascinating flavours of interior design and history hidden right here in the middle of Lithuania, in Kaunas. The NMF Home team highly recommends a visit to the apartment of Pranas Gudavičius (1876-1956), a therapist, political and social activist.
It was opened by a couple of Kaunas residents whose eyes light up when they talk about the history, culture and interiors of interwar Lithuania. The same guys who bought and restored this famous Kaunas freethinker's apartment also lead experiential tours, which are probably the best museum and educational experience in Lithuania, and worth waiting in queues of up to a month. On the menu of this tour: the art deco façade and the original layout of the apartment, the interwar history of Kaunas, which is often glossed over in state museums, and a dessert of sustainability trends even in a vintage apartment.

Tasty interiors: "Donelaitis" restaurant

If you've already come to Kaunas to visit Dr Gudavičius, or if you're a Kaunas resident, we'd like to recommend another interior tasting, located just a stone's throw from the Art Deco Museum. It is a  restaurant called "Donelaičio" which is decorated in another style of the interwar period - Bauhaus. This style comes from the German school and focuses on interior function instead of form. It is another form of minimalism, spiced up with geometric shapes, industrial materials and primary colours. Bold geometric paintings catch the eye before you even step inside. The historic location of Kaunas, European cuisine, vinyl record nights and an interior that combines modern sculptural lines with comfort are the recipe for a good night out.
